AFB CULTURE

The Acid-Fast Bacillus (AFB) Culture test detects mycobacteria, including the bacteria that cause tuberculosis (TB) and other infections. It is primarily used to diagnose active TB and monitor treatment effectiveness.Preparation:No special preparation required, but samples (sputum, blood, urine, or tissue) should be collected as instructed by your healthcare provider.  Procedure: Collection of a sample, usually sputum, but can vary based on infection location.
