Why Is This Test Done?
Comments :
Helicobacter pylori is a gram negative bacteria responsible for about 80-90% cases of gastritis and suspected to be a major co-factor for the development of gastric and duodenal ulcers. The colonization of gastric and duodenal mucous membranes with Helicobacter pylori can be detected serologically by enzyme immunoassay tests. IgM antibodies indicate acute infection even if no bacteria are detected on mucous membrane biopsy, indirect immunofluorescence or urease test. IgG antibodies do not distinguish between current and past infection.
