Why Is This Test Done?
1. This is a nonspecific test for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE). It is also positive in drug induced lupus scleroderma and rheumatoid arthritis.
2. SLE can be better diagnosed with specific tests such as Anti-Nuclear Antibody assay which detects antibodies to chromatin, histones, ds-DNA and SmRNP.
