Interpretation:

• Normal Range: Typically 10-140 U/L, but normal ranges can vary slightly by lab.

• Elevated Lipase Levels:

  • Pancreatitis: Acute or chronic inflammation of the pancreas.
  • Pancreatic Cancer: Tumors affecting pancreatic function.
  • Other Pancreatic Disorders: Such as pancreatic duct obstruction.
  • Kidney Disease: Since lipase is cleared by the kidneys, impaired kidney function can lead to elevated levels.
  • Gastrointestinal Conditions: Such as peptic ulcers or bowel obstruction.

• Normal or Low Lipase Levels: Usually indicates that pancreatic function is normal. However, normal levels do not completely rule out pancreatic conditions, especially if symptoms are present.
