Patient Preparation: No special preparation is required

The Beta-2 Microglobulin (β2-MG) test measures the level of β2-microglobulin in the blood or urine. β2-MG is a small protein found on the surface of most cells, and elevated levels can indicate certain conditions, including kidney dysfunction, some types of cancer (such as multiple myeloma or lymphomas), and inflammatory or autoimmune diseases.

Procedure

  • Blood Test: A blood sample is drawn from a vein, usually in the arm.
  • Urine Test: A urine sample is collected.
