  1. Fasting Requirements:

    • Fasting: No fasting is generally required unless instructed otherwise by the healthcare provider. Blood samples are usually collected during fever spikes when the microbial load in the bloodstream is highest.
  2. Other Preparations:

    • Avoid Antibiotics: If possible, the sample should be collected before the administration of antibiotics to avoid false-negative results. Inform your healthcare provider of any ongoing antibiotic or antifungal treatment.
    • Site Preparation: Ensure proper cleaning of the sample collection site (e.g., venipuncture site for blood cultures) to avoid contamination.
