Patient Preparation for Sample Collection:


Explanation to the Patient:

  1. Explain the purpose of the test to the patient, especially if the sample is being collected from a body site (e.g., throat, wound, sputum).
  2. Inform them about what to expect during the sample collection to reduce anxiety and ensure cooperation.


Sample Collection:

  • The type of sample depends on the suspected site of infection and can include blood, urine, sputum, throat swabs, wound swabs, cerebrospinal fluid, or other body fluids.
  • The patient may need to fast or avoid certain activities depending on the sample type (e.g., early morning sputum collection).
  • Ensure that the patient follows instructions specific to the sample collection, such as proper hygiene or sterile techniques to avoid contamination.
