The Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) 1-IgG test is a blood test used to detect antibodies to HSV-1, the virus that primarily causes oral herpes but can also affect other areas of the body. The test checks for the presence of IgG antibodies, which indicate a past infection with HSV-1.

Preparation for the HSV 1-IgG Test:

Fasting Requirements:

  • No fasting is required for the HSV 1-IgG test. You can eat and drink normally before the test.

What to Expect During the Test:

  • A healthcare professional will draw a small amount of blood from a vein, usually in your arm.
  • The procedure typically takes just a few minutes.
  • You may feel slight discomfort from the needle, but it should be minimal.

After the Test:

  • You can resume your normal activities immediately after the blood draw.
  • There are usually no side effects, though some people might experience mild bruising or soreness at the puncture site.
