RENAL FUNCTION TEST(KIDNEY)
  • Overview

Renal Function Tests (Kidney Function Tests) are a series of blood and urine tests used to evaluate how well the kidneys are working. These tests measure levels of various substances in the blood, such as creatinine, urea (blood urea nitrogen - BUN), and electrolytes (e.g., sodium, potassium), which are filtered by the kidneys. Abnormal levels of these substances can indicate kidney dysfunction or disease. Common tests included in renal function evaluation are:

Fasting: Generally, no fasting is required for most renal function tests.

Sample Collection Process by Speediagno Phlebotomist or Technician:

Speediagno follows a standardized procedure for sample collection to ensure accurate results for renal function tests.

  1. Preparation for Sample Collection:

    • Identify the Patient: Confirm the patient’s identity using at least two identifiers (e.g., name and date of birth).
    • Consent and Explanation: Explain the procedure to the patient, including the steps involved in collecting blood and/or urine samples.
  2. Blood Sample Collection:

    • Venipuncture Process:
      • Position the Patient: The patient should sit comfortably with the arm extended.
      • Prepare the Site: Clean the venipuncture site (typically the inside of the elbow) with an antiseptic wipe.
      • Blood Draw: A tourniquet is applied above the site to fill the veins. A needle is inserted into the vein, and blood is drawn into one or more tubes labeled with the patient’s information.
      • Post-Collection Care: The needle is removed, and pressure is applied to the site with a gauze pad to stop bleeding. A bandage is applied afterward.
