Description: The TPHA (Treponema pallidum hemagglutination) test is a blood test that detects syphilis, a sexually transmitted disease:
How it works ?
The test uses chicken erythrocytes that are coated with antigens from the syphilis bacteria, which bind to antibodies in the patient's blood.
Results: A positive result indicates the presence of antibodies that are specific to syphilis.
Significance: A positive result usually remains detectable for life, even after treatment. This means that a positive result doesn't necessarily indicate an active infection, and could be due to a previous infection.
Complications: If left untreated, syphilis can lead to serious health issues, including blindness, deafness, mental illness, memory loss, stroke, meningitis, and neurosyphili
