Uric Acid
  • Overview

The Uric Acid test measures the level of uric acid in the blood or urine. Uric acid is a waste product formed from the breakdown of purines, substances found in certain foods and cells in the body. This test helps diagnose conditions such as gout, kidney stones, and monitoring uric acid levels in patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiation therapy.

Preparation: Fasting is generally not required,

Procedure: A blood sample is drawn from a vein, usually in the arm. Alternatively, a 24-hour urine sample may be collected in some cases.
